Stacy Farrell
Member since 08/2011
Stacy Farrell embarked on her homeschooling adventure in 2002…and hasn’t been the same since! Her background as a freelance writer and consultant well-prepared her to teach communication skills; however, only hands-on experience (and much time spent on her knees) equipped her to mentor her sons through the character-transformation required to help them work toward their full potential. Today, she has a passion for empowering teens to recover territory lost by “mushy thinking” and low expectations. Although cliché, it is true: “Today’s students become tomorrow’s leaders.” Stacy published articles in Moody, Decision, and other magazines, wrote scripts for Willow Creek’s junior high ministry, copy for Pastor Bill Hybel’s “Defining Moments” Audio Newsletter and a broad range of material for corporate and non-profit clients. She also managed a law firm that specialized in civil rights litigation and constitutional law. Most recently, she created Philosophy Adventure, a core curriculum (to be released Spring 2012) that teaches World History, Geography, Writing, Speaking, and Critical Thinking through the lives and stories of prominent philosophers. She considers her role as wife to Roger and mother to two precious sons to be her greatest work and privilege.

Presentations

"Dethroning the Imposter" (& the Art of Persuasive Speaking)

Did you know you live under the tyranny of an imposter? This imposter undermines our thinking and jeopardizes that which is most important to us. Find out what the “Divided-Truth Theory” is and why you must develop effective communication skills to combat its destructive impact. (As a counter-balance to the gravity of this topic, be prepared to learn and try new skills in a lively activity.)

"Don't Run from the Mirror": Why You Need to Teach

When families first consider homeschooling, they often feel ill-equipped for the challenge. Fortunately, today quality homeschool curriculum resources abound. But there is a critical element necessary for success—and it can’t be purchased for any price. Namely, as homeschool families, we need courage to face the truth about ourselves as we see our weaknesses reflected in the mirror of our homeschool. This workshop will encourage parents to stay the course and discover how they will be refined and reshaped into something precious through the process of acquiring the character and knowledge required to give their children a true education.

"Ideas Rule the World" (& the Art of Persuasive Writing)

One man fell into a ditch while gazing at the stars, another lived in a barrel and tossed aside his cup when he saw someone drink with his hands, and a third man is said to have applied hot bread to his nostrils to postpone his impending death. Who are these colorful characters? You may be surprised to learn they are some of the world’s greatest philosophers! Although their stories are entertaining, their ideas can be deadly. Together, we will explore the consequences of their ideas and learn why we must hone our thinking and writing skills to combat deadly ideas with life and truth. Bring a pencil and paper and be prepared to have some fun…despite the seriousness of this subject.
