Member since 03/2011
Karen is a homeschool mom to 4 children. She has been homeschooling since God called her when her oldest was kindergarten age, after thinking "I could NEVER do THAT!" But she obeyed the call, put Him first, and has been abundantly blessed by homeschooling. Now she is passionate about encouraging other families along the way. She loves all things simple and believes with all her heart in putting God first in everything we do, including homeschool. She loves to write about her journey on her site "Simply Living...For Him." (www.simplylivingforhim.com) She encourages people to live simpler lives by getting rid of all the distractions, both physical and mental, that can take our focus of God. Her husband is the High School Youth Coordinator at their church and Karen assists him. She and her family are open to any ministry opportunity that the Lord leads them to. She has a heart for homeschooling families, living simply, as well as mentoring teenage girls.

My Mission Statement

It is my mission to glorify God in all that I do. God called me to homeschool, and I intend to obey His call, while encouraging other families who are on the same journey. I also want to encourage families to live more simply and get rid of the physical and mental clutter in our lives, so that we can simply live...for HIM!

Education As An Atmosphere...Letting Your Home Be a Place of Continuous Learning

Charlotte Mason wrote about education as an atmosphere in her writings. What exactly does that look like put into practice? If you think home school involves all sorts of fancy curriculums, workbooks, and exercises think again! While those things are very helpful, your home is the perfect environment to foster the desire for learning. Learning takes place from morning until night! In this session we will discuss why making your home an atmosphere of learning is so important, and how we can use our home environment to be the most useful tool we have in our home school curriculum!

Mental Clutter- Filling our Minds with what Matters Most

Mental clutter can be just as distracting in our homeschool than physical clutter. Referring to Philippians 4:8 we learn to fill our minds with the right things! Keeping our focus on the Lord and not the trappings of this world, is important to homeschool success.

Putting on the Armor of God to Fight Burnout in Your Homeschool

The devil wants to distract us and take us off course in our homeschool. Learn how to biblically fight Him off with the tools God has given us in His Word.

Simplifying Homeschool

I can’t work with all this clutter! Where did I put the math lessons? Where are my supplies? Why are our school days never smooth like everyone else’s? Chicken nuggets for dinner AGAIN? Sound familiar? In this workshop Karen will help you get a handle on your homeschool, by simplifying. Getting rid of the clutter that can physically and mentally disrupt our homeschool. More importantly, getting rid of anything that distracts us from putting God first which can hinder our efforts in our homeschools. God must be our first priority! Simplifying homeschool is about keeping our focus on God and why we chose to homeschool in the first place. Learning how to get rid of distractions whether they be physical, mental, or spiritual, and prioritize our homeschools so that we can glorify God in all that we do!

What to do with ALL that stuff? Simplifying supplies, books, and clutter

Homeschoolers are notorious for having lots of stuff. Books, supplies, reources, etc. are abundant! We want to provide all the best for our kids, but once we have it, what do we do with it all? I will discuss practical tips to keep your homeschool supplies organized, and more importantly-to simplify this area of your life to keep the focus on what is important in your homeschool.

Who is in Charge of Your Homeschool? Letting God Lead Your Homeschool

Based on Matthew 6:33, we will discuss why seeking first His righteousness will ensure our homeschool success. Writing out goals for homeschool, a family mission statement, and a verse to cling to for your family are part of this process. I believe that if God called you to homeschool, He wants to lead your homeschool!
