For many families math is necessary, but not at all fun. How sad! My goal is to encourage parents to remove the drudgery and introduce the joy in math. Following the Lord’s leading, I started a business in which I tutor and enrich students in math, teach hands-on math at co-op, and hold short term hands-on math classes in my home. My professional teaching certification allows me to also provide portfolio assessment and standardized testing for homeschoolers. I home educate my own children, ages 14, 11 and 6. When I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Applied Mathematics and Teaching of Mathematics (UNC-Asheville, 1995) little did I know what God had in store for me in the future. I am loving the adventure!

My Mission Statement

Parents can teach math, they can teach it well, and they can make it fun. I help empower parents to do this with confidence. God’s creation is full of mathematics, from the symmetry of a flower to the paths the planets follow around the sun. I feel privileged to uncover for parents and their children the beauty found hidden in mathematics.

Creating a Yearly Portfolio

Portfolios come in all shapes and sizes - make sure yours fits your family’s style. What to include in a portfolio of your child’s school work and activities for the year and how to organize all that information without driving yourself crazy. Also, how to get the most benefit from a narrative assessment of your children’s portfolios.

Setting Your Homeschool Up for Success in Math

If I hate math, how can I get my child to like it? Why should they like it, anyway? and What about Algebra?? Building math confidence in children is especially hard when you don’t have any yourself. How to make math time fun for the whole family, removing the drudgery and introducing the joy, and creating true conceptual understanding. Hands-on methods will be emphasized.

The Role of Standardized Testing in the Homeschool

Testing can be a blessing instead of something to be feared! When to test, how testing benefits your homeschool, how to ease anxiety about testing, and what to do with the results.
