I am a christian wife to the man of my dreams. Mother to 7 children, 2 are awaiting me in Heaven. My children suffer from a genetic disorder that leaves us dealing with medical and learning disablities. I too have a disability, I have lupus. Through all this we cling to the Lord for our strength and purpose.

My Mission Statement

I pray that I will be able to encourage, support, and equip parents in their homeschooling journey.  You can successfully homeschool no matter your child's strengths or weaknesses! You can do it!

Presentations

Autism the new socialization question

Oh no not the socialization question! Yes! As parents of children with autism and developmental delays we must make a special point of addressing socialization in our homeschooling. We talk about setting attainable goals, finding ways to encourage social interaction. We also discuss therapies that might be needed to assist our children and where to find them. Finally where can our special kids go at the end of the journey?

Don’t Dys-miss Me! A look at the neglected learning disabilities

Learning disabilities can affect any part of the learning process. Where do I draw the line between messy writing and dsygraphia? Math is hard but my son just doesn’t get it! We talk about many of the under discussed learning disabilities such as dsygraphia, dyscalculia, processing disorders, and memory/retrieval issues.

Gifted Gals

This workshop is for the ladies! Moms, preteens, and teens that have been blessed with giftedness. What are you going to be when you grow up? That’s a loaded question when asked to a gifted teen; the answer (by many) is expected to be nuclear physicist. What if you don’t feel that is right for you? This is a heart to heart talk about what YOU wish to be and how to get there. Where is God guiding you? How can you find that special path? How to stay strong in your faith no matter what path God leads you to!

Movers, Shakers and Denim Cloth Haters

Does your child bounce constantly? Will your child refuse to touch sand? We discuss Sensory Integration Disorder and what it means to our homeschooling. Practical advice and ideas from a mom who has lived the sensory roller coaster for years, and if pushed would have to admit to having sensory issues herself. How to adapt your learning environment to help your child thrive!

My beautiful Sarah

This is a very pro life message. I talk about the brief but incredibly powerful life of my daughter Sarah. We found out that Sarah had a rare birth defect that meant she would be dead during pregnancy or die shorty after wards. As a scared young couple my husband and I thought we had no choice but to induce the pregnancy. Sarah’s powerful, silent message led my family to Christ and to be born again. I encourage those dealing with or supporting poor prognosis pregnancies to find their strength in God. I also encourage the listener to depend on the Lord for their path no matter the obstacle.

Not you Typical Homeschooler, Our journey into special needs homeschooling

Have you started homeschooling and things are rough? Learning is just not happening as fast or as well as you think it should? I walk through the steps from when we began homeschooling to realizing we were a special needs homeschooling family. I talk about Problem verses Phase-deciding if this problem needs help. Assessment-who to go to and how to get the problem tested or evaluated. Making it work-adjusting so that you can keep on homeschooling. Goals-setting goals that are high but attainable.

Resistant Learners

Your child just doesn’t want to learn! They drag their feet, forget assignments, and otherwise frustrate you with their excuses. Let’s look at why many children stop wanting to learn. How to overcome those obstacles! Tips and ideas from moms that have been there. Let’s get this homeschool back on track!

Special Needs Homeschooling Open Talk

I host an open discussion on special needs homeschooling issues. I will have several topics and questions prepared that are often asked. I will also talk to the group about starting their own groups for support. Together our burdens are lighter!

Finally encouragement of outcomes and overcomes from families that have gone before us!

Standing Strong
